Housekeeping At Clarendon

See what we got up to while our visitors weren’t visiting …

Clarendon, Runnymede and Home Hill closed in July and August for Winter conservation housekeeping programs. At Runnymede, the conservation volunteers continued to air (and check for mould) the interiors of bookcases and cupboards. They also undertook a rearrangement of offices and conservation areas in the house’s service wing.

At Clarendon, volunteers led by Ken Richards, Barb Milson and Annette Aldersea undertook a deep clean of all rooms.

The Clarendon volunteers have also been working through the property’s stored collections in preparation for relocating collection storage from the Shepherd’s Cottage back to the house. This is part of freeing up the outbuildings for public programs and income-generating uses. We will be applying for grant funding to set up our outbuildings for accommodation and to also better curate the house’s collections for a better understanding of how the first generation of the Cox family lived at the house between the 1830s and the 1860s.  Watch this space.
