A pair of brass door porters provides a hint of a grand banquet at Clarendon.
Good things come in pairs. While in the UK our Managing Director picked up a pair of 1830s cast brass door porters for Clarendon.
A door porter sounds like a person but these weighted door stops with handles made a servant’s life easier by holding the doors open.
Clarendon has two doors to each of its ground floor reception rooms. In the case of the dining room these may have allowed a footman to enter the room with a fresh dish while another footman left the room by the other door with the previous course.
