Discover the full list of what’s on these School Holidays here.

Solve Clues and Crack Mysteries

Turn your family day out into an adventure.

At Old Melbourne Gaol, kids can step into the role of junior detective. Crime Busters: Forensic Investigators is a hands-on challenge where they’ll uncover clues and solve a historical mystery.

While you’re there, take a tour of the old cells. Explore the City Watch House. Or join the Escape Artist Tour and discover the stories of those who tried to flee.

Want more? Head to Pentridge Prison Tours. The Time Travellers Scavenger Hunt takes kids on a clue-filled journey through this historic site.

To make the most of your visit, grab a Prison Explorers Pass. It’s great value and includes both the Old Melbourne Gaol and Pentridge Prison experiences.

All Aboard for Pirate Day

It’s time to set sail.

Join the crew on the Polly Woodside for Pirate Day. It’s a morning of adventure for swashbucklers of all ages.

Kids can scrub the deck, swing on a rope, and go on a treasure hunt. They’ll get their own pirate name and a temporary tattoo.

There’s also a reading corner, craft table, and time to explore the ship and museum.

And yes – costumes are encouraged! Dress up for Fashions on the Plank and show off your finest pirate gear.

The next Pirate Day is on Sunday 20 July 2025, from 10am to 1pm. Don’t miss it.

Meet the Man Behind the Legend

Step into the final chapter of Ned Kelly’s life.

The Ned Kelly’s Last Stand Tour at Old Melbourne Gaol tells the story of his dramatic end. See where he was held. Visit the site of his execution. Stand in the cell where he spent his final hours.

Was he a hero, a villain, or something else entirely? This powerful tour invites you to decide.

Tours run on weekends and can be added to your general admission ticket.

Looking for something more atmospheric? Older kids will enjoy the Old Melbourne Gaol’s Night Tours for a deeper, darker look at the past.

Escape the Country at Mooramong

Slow down and switch off.

Mooramong Estate, near Skipton, is the perfect winter escape.

Stay in a charming heritage cottage. Enjoy a blend of rustic beauty and modern comfort.

Explore bush trails. Spot birds from the hide. Play a few games of tennis. Or hop on the nearby Skipton-Ballarat Rail Trail.

In the evening, toast marshmallows, sip wine, and watch the stars come out.

Mooramong is just 50 minutes from Ballarat and close to the Pyrenees and the Grampians.
