Cooktown Museum Collection

Not only is this former Convent an interesting building, its walls enclose a wondrous collection of images and artefacts that pertain to the Cooktown region.

The Cooktown Glass Plate Negative Collection includes hundreds of images dating back to the late nineteenth century.

The Museum contains items from the building’s convent days as well as an anchor and a cannon jettisoned by Lt James Cook in 1770 from HMB Endeavour. These nautical artefacts occupy pride of place in the Endeavour Gallery.
