Walking Westmeadows
Walking the streets of Westmeadows, previously known as the Broadmeadows Township, established in 1850.
The Township of Broadmeadows (now Westmeadows) has a history which dates to the early days of the white settlers. It is on the banks of the Moonee Ponds Creek, on land that was managed by the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung peoples for almost 40,000 years. The Township was the administrative centre for the Shire of Broadmeadows for almost 70 years.
This walk is an opportunity to visit buildings and places of historical significance within the Township, including the Shire Offices, the sites of two of the licensed hotels, and several churches including the township’s first church.
