Unearth Stories of B-24 Liberator Bombers during World War II
Come for a guided tour of our special museum where we are restoring the only B-24 Liberator bomber that remains in the southern hemisphere, and discover special stories about the role of Liberators and their crew.
Your guided tour will show you the magnificent four-engine B-24 Liberator bomber that volunteers are restoring in our working museum. The Royal Australian Air Force acquired 287 Liberators from the United States during World War II, and they played a vital part in the air war in the Pacific.
You will hear fascinating stories: that of Hazel (further details not provided here; we don’t want to spoil the surprise!), and that of how the wings of our Liberator were found in a remote crash site in New Guinea in the 1990s.
You will be able to see how the bomb release mechanism operated to release bombs from the bomb bay.
You will also see that we are located in an authentic World War II, camouflage-green hangar on what was a satellite airfield of the RAAF Point Cook base.
If you have any interest in military aviation history, this is a must for you!
