The Forgotten History of Thompson Street
A guided historical walking tour of the eastern end of Thompson Street, Williamstown
Today, the Nelson Place end of Thompson Street, Williamstown is home to mostly modern residential buildings, but its history is far more diverse. Once home to the Court House, Council Chambers, Police Station, Police Watch House, Customers Office, Water Police, hotels and shops, its history is varied and interesting. At one point it even housed a set of foot stocks. Although many of these buildings are long gone, photographic records of many of these buildings remain.
Join members of the Williamstown Historical Society to discover this lost past of 19th Century Williamstown with stories and photographs at the exact location where these buildings once stood and operated.
This walking tour will start at the corner of Nelson Place and Thompson Street and will be an easy, flat walk between Nelson Place and the railway bridge and back.
