Step into Queenscliff’s Past

Join a local guide to unearth the stories hidden behind the distinctive heritage facades of the Victorian colonial-era buildings in Queenscliff, or explore at your own leisure with a self-guided heritage walk.

Take a guided walk for an hour with a volunteer guide to find out more about the varied shopfronts and grand hotels around Hesse Street, the historic heart of Queenscliff. Shaped by the waters of Port Phillip, the colonial town grew from the 1850s with maritime services, fishermen, hoteliers, local businesses, soldiers, holidaymakers and more finding their way to the entrance to Port Phillip.

Still a popular beach holiday town, the stories belonging to the attractive historic buildings and the unique coastal defences will surprise you.

Wanting to explore at your own leisure? Call into Queenscliffe Visitor Information Centre any day and pick up a self-guided Heritage Walk map to wander the town centre, or discover the stories of The Flat, once the home of Queenscliff’s fishing families as you wander Queenscliff Harbour and maritime precinct.

Then dig deeper to view the rich collections held at Queenscliff’s local historical, maritime and fort museums
