Salute to the Old Mill, Portarlington
This event revisits the history of the beautiful old Portarlington Steam Flour Mill on the Bellarine Peninsula and tells tales of its optimistic foundation in 1858, its decline through a series of debasing usages, its restoration, its closure to the public in 2020, and those who loved it.
After its recent closure to the public, many of the historic objects from the Mill were distributed to local historical societies including our own. A special one-off exhibition of these items will be mounted. These include a large historic photo of the Mill in its heyday in the 1870s, story boards from the Mill and other objects. The exhibition will be open all day. A talk covering the history of the Mill since its construction in 1858 until the present day will be provided, illustrated by both historical and recent photos. Refreshments will be available on the day. Visitors will also be able to view other exhibits within the Old Courthouse Museum in Drysdale. The Courthouse operated until 1977 and is National Trust listed.
