Malmsbury Cemetery Tour – Stone and Stoneworkers
Join us on a visual and tactile tour of Malmsbury cemetery to learn about Malmsbury bluestone, the quarrymen, stonemasons and monumental masons, and examine the diversity of stones and stories told through monumental works.
Stone is a natural part of our landscape and man has used stone for millennia for a variety of purposes including gravestones. Cemeteries are an ideal place to experience first-hand a wide range of stones from many countries in addition to our home-grown sources. Malmsbury bluestone is now a designated Global Heritage Stone Resource, a first for an Australian stone.
Join Malmsbury Historical Society on a walking tour of Malmsbury Cemetery and unearth our local bluestone history and heritage, identify other stone types and learn about those who worked with stone for a living and now rest in the cemetery. The tour also includes other stone-related cultural and industrial history.
