Chelsea Court House was listed on the State Heritage Register in 1990 for its architectural and historic significance as an outstanding example of a suburban court house of its era, designed in a sophisticated neo-classical style, and as an important community landmark. Opened in 1929 the Court House has recently been faithfully restored to reflect its past as a functioning part of the Magistrates Court of Victoria. Until it closed in 1989, the Chelsea court heard cases from different jurisdictions including criminal, civil, licensing, adoption and family law matters.
