Good Sports, Leisure and Recreation in the Macedon Ranges
Sport is woven into the social fabric of the Macedon Ranges region. In association with local sporting organisations and historical societies, this exhibition will unearth the achievements of our sporting heroes and teams through objects and stories, each telling its own unique tale. Game On!
Whether you watch sport, play sport or have very little interest in sport, you would still be able to name an Australian sporting icon or a club that has influenced our way of life. Ingrained in our culture is the camaraderie of team games, from choosing your AFL club, to rooting for the underdog as they emerge the victor in a classic tale of David versus Goliath.
Leisure time is highly valued and much of it is spent on outdoor activities. Objects and local stories highlight the importance sport plays in our everyday lives, and how some of the games we know, and love have significant roots in our past. Explore themes such as the role of Marn-Grook and its evolution to the game of AFL, to the lesser-known Fire Brigade Running Team events or how a simple bike ride went from a boneshaking experience to one of speed and agility.
The Kyneton Museum can cater for groups with prior arrangements and can offer a selected tour for those with accessibility limitations.
