Forgotten Chinese Graves

Discover some of the hidden Chinese graves in the historic Melbourne General Cemetery and learn about the history of Chinese migrants of Melbourne.

This 2-hour tour will introduce the Chinese graves at the Melbourne General Cemetery which was established in 1852. Participants will discover the locations of some of these hidden graves and learn about the individuals buried there. The stories will introduce participants to the history of Chinese migration and the impact of the Chinese on Melbourne culture and society.

Discussion will include interpreting headstones and learning burial customs.

The walking distance will be about 3 kms and cover mostly flat ground but may include uneven surfaces.

The meeting point for the start of the tour will be the main entry gate on College Crescent.

This tour is run in partnership between the Museum of Chinese Australian History, Chinese Australian Family Historians of Victoria and Southern Memorial Cemeteries Trust.
