Discovering the Crooked River Goldfield
Travel the Crooked River Goldfield road along the river visiting historic sites along the way four wheel drive essential. Ghost towns, mining sites old mining machinery from the 1860s alluvial goldrush to the quartz rush of 1865.
Travel through the old ghost town of Grant then down Bull Town Spur to the sites of Bull Town and Hogg Town. See the remains of vast pebble dumps created by the alluvial miners, baker’s ovens and chimney’s marking the place of old hotels. Hear about the Seery – Tepfar murder that took place along the way. Ford the Crooked River 22 times on the way to our lunch spot at Talbotville set amongst the old orchard. In the afternoon, see the remnants of the Crooked River Dredge before returning to Dargo via the Pioneer and Wonnangatta Rivers.
