Como House of Discovery: Under Things
A subtle uncovering of layers, Como House is transformed into an imagined dressing room, where under things are revealed in their material beauty.
Explore the rooms of Como House and see a glimpse into the processes and performance of getting dressed. An installation featuring white work underwear that is very rarely seen in exhibitions, including garments from the National Trust of Australia (Victoria)’s own Fashion & Costume Collection.
Ethereal and dreamy – see lace, embroidery and hand-stitched delicate cottons together with underpinnings such as corsets and crinolines. Under Things reveals what was worn by women during the 19th and early 20th centuries to create the fashionable silhouettes of the time.
Exploring themes of light and transparency, comfort and discomfort, cleanliness and work, as well as the handmade and manufactured. The installation will showcase these garments in context with the lives once lived at Como House.
The event is proudly supported by the Heritage Council Victoria.
