34 Degrees South at Retford Park
Artists of the Round Yard present ‘34 Degrees South’ in the Round Yard and the White Cottage Gallery at Retford Park.
The exhibition title ‘34 Degrees South’ reflects the artists’ latitudinal placement on the Earth’s hemisphere, their bandwidth south of the equator. Bowral and Retford Park are located at 34.8802 degrees South Longitude and the nine exhibiting artists live in Southern Highlands towns, villages and adjoining bushlands. Their various travels and experiences lead to a complex array of subject matter explored in this exhibition.
In the wider context, the artists are concerned with the effect of place on the way lives are lived and micro-cultures develop. ‘34 Degrees South’ unearths the artists’ diverse responses to their sense of place through their mediums of paint, clay, stone, metals and fibre.
The contemporary art collective known as Artists of the Round Yard is affiliated with Retford Park and comprises thirteen local artists who show their work twice a year in both the Round Yard and the White Cottage Gallery.
