Places to visitCall for Participation

The National Trust is currently undertaking an Aboriginal Cultural Heritage survey of The Old Melbourne Gaol and City Watch House so that we can better tell the stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

As the Traditional Owners of the land on which the sites sit, a group of people historically and contemporaneously over represented in the prison system and as a means of discussing our shared heritage, we are seeking as much information as we can to inform Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ perspectives in new interpretation and programming.

If you have had experiences at The Old Melbourne Gaol and City Watch House and you identify as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person, we’d love to hear from you. Whether it be a family member’s story, historical information, whilst the sites were active in the penitentiary system or since the National Trust has owned them, we are seeking your contribution.

If you or someone you know would like to participate, please email Alix Hill with your story or call on 9656 9834. Once you’ve registered, you may be contacted for further information.
