Each year the National Trust of Western Australia commemorates the significant contribution CY O’Connor’s legacy has made to the state and nation with an annual lecture held to mark the anniversary of his death – 10 March.
Please note: The National Trust of Western Australia has made the difficult decision to postpone the 2022 CY O’Connor Lecture. We will update those who had bought tickets to give them an opportunity to re-book for the rescheduled event.
This year marks 120 years since O’Connor’s death and Mike Lefroy will be delivering the lecture on Thursday 10 March at the Maritime Museum in Fremantle.
“We’re delighted to have Mike Lefroy delivering the CY O’Connor Lecture in this special anniversary year, offering a more personal take on this remarkable man,” said Julian Donaldson, National Trust of Western Australia CEO.
Mike is a freelance educator and writer, and former Head of Education at the WA Maritime Museum. He is also a great grandson of CY O’Connor. His lecture will focus on Charles Yelverton O’Connor the man. To celebrate his legacy, Mike will explore his great grandfather’s life and achievements through family stories, facts and furphies.
“The CY O’Connor Lecture series has been generously sponsored by Water Corporation for many years with a partnership going back to 2004,” said Mr Donaldson. “This year we’re pleased to also acknowledge the support of our host, the Western Australia Museum.”
Water Corporation is a partner of the Foundation for the WA Museum and has established an interactive experience highlighting how water and climate have played a key role in creating WA’s unique environment. Featuring a section of the Golden Pipeline, the display can be seen at WA Museum Boola Bardip.
All attendees aged 16 years and over will be required to show proof of vaccination to enter the Maritime Museum and masks must be worn indoors.
