Old Observatory Interpretation Project

Proposals are sought from a consultant team experienced in working with heritage places to undertake an interpretation project that focusses on the Old Observatory and the work of the National Trust of Western Australia.

There is currently no on-site interpretation of the heritage values of the Old Observatory. This project will provide external interpretation about the place for the foot traffic in the precinct and interpretation inside the building for those who visit for meetings or tours. It will provide unexpected insights into what was the former Government Astronomer’s Residence and the offices of the original Perth Observatory. The interpretation will also provide insight into the work of the National Trust of Western Australian in built, natural, Aboriginal, moveable and historic heritage, and as a manager of heritage places, collections, stories, that undertakes meaningful work with and on behalf of the community.

Audiences will value the work of the National Trust and see its relevance to contemporary life, be unexpectedly surprised and amazed at the diversity of what it does, and be convinced of the National Trust’s innovation and entrepreneurship.
