The Blue Mountains offers a rich trove of material which inspires varied and unique artist interpretations. View a stunning collection of works by four such artists, from photography to textiles, on display at Everglades House & Gardens.
Visit Everglades House & Gardens to view this stunning new exhibition crafted by four members of a family, two generations, who have developed unique responses to the natural world.
Ellen and Amber King, and Irene and James Manion have for years, worked beside each other, in responding to the grand landscape of the Blue Mountains and beyond. The choice of photography by the younger generation as the means of interpreting the natural environment has resulted in extraordinary images, such as the magical eruption of phosphorescent mushrooms and infrared digital images of plants and landscapes that appear otherworldly.
Sisters, Ellen King and Irene Manion have developed textile practices in individual ways. Ellen King translates her personal, abstract vision of the landscape, plants and natural forms in her felted sculptures and garments, while Irene Manion’s stitched surfaces and watercolours portray the character and beauty of local native birds that surround us in our gardens.
