View a stunning display of works inspired by nature in this unmissable joint exhibition by local artists Elizabeth Burton and Gillian Baldock.
Southern Highlands-based artists Elizabeth Burton and Gillian Baldock present a joint exhibition of incredible works presented in the historic grounds of Retford Park. Elizabeth explores flowers, trees and landscapes and their meaningfulness as abstractions. Gillian presents animals interactions and relationships of animals with each other and the environment.
Elizabeth’s journey has been shaped by rich experimentation in botanical illustration, watercolours, oils, mixed media and printmaking and encaustic painting. Underpinning her multi-disciplinary, sometimes multi-media, approach is her mastery of drawing and understanding of the power of the simplicity of line. This is reflected in the beauty of Elizabeth’s flowers and mixed media landscapes, working with acrylic paints, inks and collage materials to create different surfaces and textures in the artwork.
Elizabeth has been invited to exhibit her work in London, Hong Kong and Cyprus as well as a solo exhibition in Denmark. She has also exhibited and taught artists’ workshops in Florence, Brisbane, Moss Vale and throughout Australia.
Art (L-R) Highlands Morning; Summer Rose by Elizabeth Burton
Gillian is inspired in her practice by a deep appreciation of, and concern for, the natural world. Much of her work highlights the interactions and relationships of animals with each other and within the environment. From an early age drawing, observation and research have been important components of her work, and Gillian continues to work in pastels, scratchboard, oils, and watercolour. Printmaking has become an integral part of her art making repertoire over the past 10 years as she explores various print making processes and techniques to discover the optimum media to complement each subject.
Gillian has had two solo exhibitions and has contributed to many group and joint exhibitions. Her works can be found in many private collections around the world.
