Greenway shared in Governor Lachlan Macquarie’s vision for an elegant and sophisticated town and the partnership between the two produced many iconic Sydney Landmarks including Hyde Park Barracks, St. James Church and the Conservatorium of Music. Although he was said to be talented and blessed with brilliant craftsmanship, Greenway was also known for being a rather irascible character and his fall from grace in the end was spectacular. Buried in an unmarked grave, his legacy lives on in some of the city’s finest colonial architecture.
Our morning will start with a guided tour of Hyde Park Barracks in Macquarie Street. Then we will cross the road for a walk through St. James Church, where we will have a brief morning tea at Jardin St. James – the ‘Cafe in the Crypt’. After that we will walk down Macquarie Street to the Conservatorium of Music where we will enjoy a lunchtime performance by the students.
Meet us at Hyde Park Barracks.
