Tashia Dixon – Whimsy to Woe

Como welcomes a new artist in residence, Tashia Dixon, and her exhibition 'Whimsy to Woe'

Tashia Dixon’s work explores society’s relationship with nature, and nature’s relationship with itself, through acrylic paint.

Tashia’s career connects her experiences as an urban designer and as an artist to explore the intersection between society and nature. She uses solid, angular forms to represent society overlayed with different brush stroke techniques to present the dynamic, impermanent qualities of the subject. This is a reiterative process that can take weeks, months or longer, depending on the time it takes to capture the nature of the animal and the experience or emotion being conveyed.

Each painting asks the viewer to consider the depth of their experience on this beautiful, singular planet as well as the deeper meaning reflected in the smallest of nature’s gifts.
