Grossmann House opens for the new year with two very special 18th century silk dresses on display. Explore the property and hear the fascinating stories of these beautiful collection items.
Maitland’s Grossmann House opens for the first time in 2023 with two very special 18th century silk dresses on show upstairs in the textile display room.
With a fascinating back story, these stunning dresses provide an insight into 18th century costume and the social mores of the time. Researched by NIDA costume students and a teacher, the dresses are a product of a donation in the mid 20th Century to the National Trust of NSW, and many hours of garment detective work and construction.
Grossmann House will be open for tours, and upstairs is encapsulated by a virtual tour so that no one misses out the treasures at the top of the stairs. Refreshments in the garden of Brough House will be available for sale, as well as Mrs Beckett’s home made jams and pickles.
The Fibre Makers’ Space on the second level of Brough House will be open for a look, and a chat with the artisans working there.
