Parramatta Lecture Series : The Governor’s Ladies – Carol Liston and the RAHS

At the invitation of Mrs. Hurley, wife of the Governor of New South Wales, the Royal Australian Historical Society has commenced work on project to document the Governor’s Ladies, including wives, daughters and sisters.

While the careers of the Governors of NSW are well documented, these women have been overlooked, remaining in the shadows of their husbands. The project aims to record the impact of each of these women, how they managed their role as the Governor’s Lady, as well as any particular contribution to New South Wales.


Carol Liston, Associate Professor of History at UWS and leader of the project, will explain the concepts behind the project and reveal some of what we do and don’t know about the Governor’s ladies.
