An exhibition drawn from the fashion collection of the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) featuring many never before seen costumes. Be transported to a world of 1920s and 30s glamour where stars, sophistication and city lights influenced the fashion worn by the well-dressed.
The N I G H T L I F E exhibition at Barwon Park Mansion showcases a very dynamic and visually impressive time in Victoria’s fashion history.
Set in an atmosphere of exuberant play and optimistic discovery, the evening wear on show references the night sky, stars and planets, neon lights, fireworks and dreams.
The costumes selected for the exhibition reveal embellished surfaces, ornamentation and pattern. The gowns come from the Trust’s collection – many have been made locally in Victoria so they represent the fashion that was being worn here during the 20s and 30s. The exhibition features over 35 gowns as well as accessories.
N I G H T L I F E reveals the change in evening wear fashion over 20 years from the early 1920s to the Moderne style of the 30s.
Please note – The Night Life exhibition is presented inside Barwon Park Mansion. During this time the internal furniture and fixtures may have been removed, adjusted or replaced to accommodate the exhibition pieces. Regular tours of the mansion won’t be offered during the exhibition period and will only re-commence after all original furniture and fixtures have been re-installed and once the exhibition has ended.
