The World Health Organisation has declared the COVID-19 virus a pandemic that risks the health, safety and wellbeing of the most vulnerable people in our community. We take this risk very seriously, so the National Trust has cancelled or postponed all events due to take place prior to the 30 June 2020. This event has been postponed.
Exclusive members-only viewing of the new exhibition ‘The Doctor Will See You Now: Women’s Health In The Colony’ including a guided one hour tour of the property and light refreshments.
This new exhibition at Experiment Farm Cottage will explore the often un-told stories of women’s health during the 1800s. Inside the home built by Surgeon John Harris, learn about the perils and oddities of childbirth, the prevalence and dangers of quack doctors, the attitudes towards reproductive education, and the support systems available to women at the time.
Members will have a chance to hear from an expert guide about the history of what this unique property contains and the many and varied stories of health and sickness that can be captured within its walls.
Light refreshments will be provided.
