LOCAL GROUND an Exhibition by Bron & Tim Newman

LOCAL GROUND is a joint exhibition of paintings by Bron and Tim Newman. In this exhibition we have two artists inspired by the same landscape with very different outcomes.

Bron and Tim Newman are Springwood artists who respond artistically in very different ways when making art, even when viewing the same subject. LOCAL GROUND is a joint exhibition of paintings. In this exhibition we have two artists inspired by the same landscape with very different outcomes.

Bron Newman has focused her extensive skills and experience to respond to the local landscape in oils on board. After viewing Bron’s works it is harder to take the natural beauty that surrounds us for granted. The art works capture the colours, shapes and atmosphere of the local landscape and bring new life and perspective. The artist’s expressionistic use of brush strokes, and colour experimentation, maintain and enhance the essence of the mountain, bush landscape. A number of her paintings were completed en plein air where others were started on site and completed in the studio.

Tim Newman’s art works at the same time, contrast and complement Bron’s paintings. There is an interesting interplay between the differing styles, techniques and materials used. The paintings challenge preconceived ways of viewing the natural landscape, allowing for new possibilities and appreciation.

Tim uses a wide range of materials including bitumen, shellac, scraps of old documents and sections of his previous art works, rearranged and worked over, to say something new or raise questions about ourselves and our environment.
