About the Gruffalo
The Gruffalo was initially published in 1999 in the United Kingdom and celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. The book was penned by writer and playwright Julia Donaldson, illustrated by Axel Scheffler, and tells the story of a mouse on a walk through a European forest.
The book has sold over 13 million copies, has won several prizes for children’s literature, and has been developed into plays on both the West End and Broadway and even adapted into an Oscar-nominated animated film.

What’s New in the Gruffalo Trail 2?
There are so many new things in this version of the app, it’s really exciting. Similar to the first trail and app, families interact with the 3D characters from the book and film on the self-led trail through Rippon Lea Estate, which is packed with fantastic facts and fun activities about nature and animals – plus with this version, we’ve introduced face and body recognition technology so the characters look at the children directly. If you roar, the Gruffalo roars back!
Photographs can be saved on your device and you can also create little mini-movies of your time with the characters, that can be shared using the #GruffaloSpotters hashtag. The final new feature is selfie mode, so you can get a brilliant close up with the stars of the show, the Gruffalo and Mouse.
