Trust Talk: Calamity and Conquest – Dr Allan Hawke AC

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Calamity and Conquest A chronicle of the convict Joseph Blundell and his consort Susan Osborne

The author, Dr Allan Hawke AC, a well-known Canberran, is a great-great-grandson of Joseph Blundell and ‘Susan Osborne’ through the tenth of their 11 children – Rosanna Meech (nee Blundell).

He will discuss their English origins and the circumstances that let them to the Limestone Plains.

In January 1826, Joseph Blundell was sentenced to death by hanging at the Maidstone Assizes – later repealed and Transported for Life to the NSW Penal Colony.  Susan Osborne was a fictitious name adopted by Mercy Blanch in an endeavour to hide from her husband and the fact her new-born child was actually fathered by Joseph Blundell.
