This exhibition is inspired by the natural and continuous life - decay cycle. Clare Delaney, a local Blue Mountain’s gardener and artist, employs soil, natural and conventional art materials to visualise this process. View Clare's unique works on display at Everglades House & Gardens, set against the raw beauty of a World Heritage-listed backdrop.
Decay creates living soil whether that be the European style of the Everglades Gardens, or the ‘garden’ of the Australian bush surrounding the Everglades. Clare investigates this edge between these two very different gardens in this body of work.
To bring this life affirming process to the surface Clare has buried paper, cardboard and canvas in the soil and mulch of the Everglade Gardens, to invite the soil creatures to make the first marks by eating, staining, and growing into the paper. When these initial works are removed she will respond using various mixed medias, natural, found and human made. Clare will also complete a series of paintings and drawings while she waits for the soil creature to do their part.
Clare is concerned with living more lightly on the planet and finding new ways to create art which impacts less on the environment. This exhibition will show how she is finding new ways in creating work using more natural, recycled and repurposed materials. Clare also has a passion for colour leading her to play with acrylic and oil paints.
