Beyond the Grapes: Discover the Hunter

With historic walking tours of Newcastle and Maitland, house and garden tours, afternoon teas, music and a staged play reading. There is so much more to the Hunter than just the grapes!

Tomago House is hosting a live reading performance of ‘Voices from Tomago’, by Maitland Repertory Theatre.
Saturday 29 May, 10am and 1pm
Step back in time and enjoy a staged reading of Australian play, Voices from Tomago, based on the letters of Maria Windeyer, a woman of remarkable character and determination.
Plus throughout the day from 10am – 4pm the house and garden is open for self guided tours and garden games with music playing softly through a PA system.

 

Grossman and Brough House is open for sparkling afternoon tea with a complimentary glass of sparkling wine for adults in the garden, following a walking tour of historic Maitland.

Miss Porter’s sell-out event ‘A Walk with the Porters’ returns for the 75th Celebration for a historic walk through Newcastle. The walk is an additional add on, either before or after a visit to Miss Porter’s House for free where visitors will step back in time; the property is filled with 1909-1940 furnishings and personal items which tell the story of the family over more than a century.

Saturday 29 May, 10am – 12 midday
Take a guided stroll around the Porter family’s neighbourhood and hear about places brought to life with stories from the collection. Start and finish at Miss Porter’s House.
Two walking groups, maximum eight per group.
$15.00 (National Trust members and general admission adults), including packaged drink and snack.

Built by the Porters in 1909, the family lived in this freestanding Edwardian terrace until 1997, when they left it to the National Trust with all its contents intact. It is now a living snapshot of pre-1950s life in Newcastle.
