Australian Heritage Festival 2017: Polly Woodside

Visitors have a rare opportunity to tour the original Duke’s & Orr’s Dock Pumphouse or enjoy a re-enactment of the 1885 launch ceremony of the ship. Children are encouraged to attend one of our interactive tours of the ship over the course of the festival.

Visitors have an opportunity to tour the original Duke’s & Orr’s Dock Pumphouse with its original steam engines, pumps and boilers right in the heart of the City. Maritime historian Derek Moore will take you on a remarkable journey through the fascinating history of Melbourne’s maritime heritage looking at the role of these which serviced Melbourne’s waterfront for over one hundred years. Polly Woodside will be re-enacting the 1885 launch ceremony. Witness or take part in the festivities with the entire family as you join the crew of Polly. Sign up for a virtual voyage and discover which member of Polly Woodside’s crew you would have been. No slacking off though, as there will be numerous duties to perform in order to keep the ship in top condition.
Children with loud voices, energy to scrub decks and an ability to pull scary faces are encouraged to attend one of our Crew Calls, an interactive tour of the ship every weekend over the course of the festival.
