Experience the amazing journeys taken by our early German pioneer women as they carried their produce on foot from Hahndorf to Adelaide through the Adelaide Hills.
Each year hundreds of walkers make the trek following the trail made by German pioneer women as they carried their fresh produce from Hahndorf to market in Adelaide 180 year ago.
The Pioneer Women’s Trail was rediscovered by members of the Hahndorf and Burnside Branches of the National Trust, and Walking SA in 1980. The annual Pioneer Women’s Trail Walk retraces their steps over 26km from Hahndorf to Beaumont.
The Pioneer Women’s Trail is approximately 26km long and mainly follows country roads, lane ways and bush tracks through a delightful section of the Adelaide Hills with historic homes, deciduous trees and native bushland. Commencing at Verdun, the trail winds through Bridgewater, following Cox Creek part of the way. After traversing beautiful Mt George Conservation Park the trail detours through Stirling, with its many coffee shops. It continues through Crafers and Cleland Conservation Park, before joining the Old Bullock Track, finally emerging to stunning city views and the descent to Beaumont House in Burnside.
The full walk starts from 7.30 am from The Academy; 68 Main Street, Hahndorf and ends at Beaumont House (631 Glynburn Road, Beaumont); however, you can choose to join the event at any of the starting points located at Bridgewater, & Stirling:
