Working for the Lady Squatters
Join local history researcher Ann Hodgkinson from the Bellarine Historical Society to uncover the forgotten stories of the first workers for the famous 'Lady Squatters' Anne Drysdale and Caroline Newcomb on their Boronggoop property in the 1840s.
Anne Drysdale and Caroline Newcomb, were among the first female pioneer station owners on the Bellarine Peninsula – later honoured posthumously with a suburb and township named for them. But have you also heard about the Clarks and the Armstrongs who supported them to oversee the property? In this presentation we will uncover more about the controversies and challenges in running Boronggoop, and the lives and origins of the people who worked there.
Please join us after the presentation to enjoy a special morning tea at 11:00am.
