Wedding dresses: something old, something new….
Wedding dresses 1840-2019
This is a unique opportunity to view the garments old and new, borrowed, but not blue, and be enthralled by history at its most delightful .
You are invited to see a collection of wedding dresses, loaned for the occasion, by the Royal WA Historical Society, spanning the European settlement of Western Australia. The Textile Collection of the EGWA has some stunning individual marriage garments, together with a band of talented embroiderers who embellished a stunning gown for one of our ex- junior members who married in June 2019.
The stories of the garments, the people who wore them, the background to their construction and the cultural associations will be given to you by Victoria Canova, Guild member and graduate of Edith Cowan University, Gail Hawes, Guild member and textile travel specialist and Suzanne Coleman, Guild member and mother of the bride.
The Historic Textile Collection Room, which is not generally open to the public, will be open from 12 noon to 4pm. Embroidery and lace from around the world will be available for viewing.
Then join us for morning tea and a closer look at the garments!
