Walking Tour: Greenway Flats and the history of Milsons Point
Celebrate the 70th anniversary of Greenway public housing with a walking tour of Milsons Point and Kirribilli, followed by a viewing of the photography exhibition All Things Considered by Christopher Ireland, at Kirribilli Neighbourhood Centre.
Join North Sydney Council Historian Dr Ian Hoskins for a walk around Milsons Point and Kirribilli, exploring the history of the area and the origins of Greenway flats. This event marks the 70th anniversary of Greenway Housing Commission Flats at Milsons Point, the largest block of units in Australia when completed in 1954.
The walk will start at Bradfield Park North, near the roundabout of Alfred, Lavender and Middlemiss Streets, and end at Greenway Flats, Ennis Road, Milsons Point. The nearest public transport is Milsons Point Station. This walk is of easy to medium difficulty, with no steps but steep inclines.
After the tour is finished, you are welcome to visit the visual art exhibition All Things Considered by photographer Christopher Ireland, at the Kirribilli Neighbourhood Centre (16-18 Fitzroy Street, Kirribilli). This exhibition chronicles a decade of life within social housing, through emotive portraits and compelling stories told by Greenway residents.
