Tying the Knot

Members and friends of the Murray Districts Historical Society can enjoy an illustrated talk about courtship, marriage and wedding dresses in the Swan River Colony. The talk, presented by Jo Pearson and featuring heritage items, will be followed by a light lunch.

The illustrated talk, ‘Tying the Knot’, has been devised by Mrs Pearson from letters, diaries and writings of families within the early days of Western Australia and will feature heritage items from the Royal WA Historical Society’s collection. The French phrase for marriage or tying the knot is “passer a corde au coq de quelqu’un”. In English, “to pass the rope around someone’s neck”. The event is hosted by the Murray Districts Historical Society. Following the talk there will be opportunities for visitors to interact with Mrs Pearson and share wedding stories and memorabilia while enjoying a light lunch.
