The Voice of QWHA .
Our display will take you on a journey through our work in collecting and displaying women's history in Queensland, from Newstead House in the early 1950's, to our home at Miegunyah in 1966, where our voice has put the story of Queensland Women before the public.
The display for the NT Heritage Festival focuses on the lives of 3 Presidents, 3 Life members, and 3 Vice-Regal Patrons of the Association. The drive and determination of our early Presidents in preserving stories and artifacts of pioneering families has ensured that their experiences of early Queensland life can be shared by members and visitors. The Queensland Women’s Historical Association, under the direction of President Martha Young placed 82 blue enamel, or brass plaques on historical sites in Brisbane and Country Queensland. Two such plaques will be displayed, and information concerning the others will be available. Many items from the past – toys, documents, books, scrapbooks, embroidered doilies, household equipment, silverware, fine china, damask linen, signature cloths – will be on display for visitors to enjoy.
