The Barn and its history with Colleen Godsell, custodian

The Barn is the sole surviving building from the 1832 whaling station established by Archibald Mosman in Mosman Bay. A fine example of how a committed community has ensured this building continues to serve as a reminder of Mosman’s maritime past. Colleen will share her story of saving The Barn.

In 1925 Mosman Council issued an order for The Barn to be demolished causing a public outcry that resulted in the 1st Mosman 1908 Scout Group moving in,
fundraising for two years, and then making The Barn their headquarters.

In recent years local resident, Colleen Godsell, has tirelessly worked to raise funds to preserve the oldest building in Mosman. Join us for an entertaining evening with Colleen as she tells the story of the Barn and her journey to ensure it continues to stand as a reminder of Mosman heritage.
