Talking Tombstones Talk #7

#7 in a series of stand alone powerpoint presentations that brings tombstones 'alive', as you hear the stories from beyond the grave from some of Australia's oldest cemeteries.

Seven historic cemeteries lie within Parramatta’s boundaries including Australia’s oldest cemetery, with Australia’s oldest headstone still in situ. Join Kerima-Gae Topp for a lively powerpoint presentation which showcases the eclectic mix of people who lie within these boundaries. Clergy to convicts, farmers to felons, explorers to eccentrics, saviours to scoundrels, magistrates to murderers, they all played a part in Australia’s rich history. Hear about a severed head, the death of two Governor’s wives, a famous explorer who is lucky to have been buried in a cemetery, and a burial which many described as like being ‘buried at sea’.
A break during the presentation to enjoy morning tea.
