TALKING TOMBSTONES Pt.1
The first in a series of three stand-alone, evocative and intriguing power point 'Talking Tombstone' presentations which demonstrate that cemeteries are not 'dead centres' and echo the importance of keeping our cemeteries and the stories 'alive' for future generations.
Symbolism, unusual words and mistakes are just a few of the topics discussed. Moving from cemetery to cemetery as you view the humblest of tombstones to the most lavish and, meet some of their ‘residents,’ you will learn that behind a few common words on a tombstone can be an amazing story. Some will have you in laughter, others may bring a tear to the eye.
Following a break for afternoon tea a visit to one of Melbourne’s notable cemeteries where the ‘bizarre’ story behind the erection of a most elaborate Victorian era memorial will surely surprise you. We then travel to country NSW to see a cemetery has been ‘brought back to life’ by a local cemetery group and finally we ‘fly’ to Norfolk Island where a visit to their unique cemetery will focus on tombstones belonging to convicts from the first and brutal second penal settlements.
Afternoon tea included.
