TALKING TOMBSTONES (Part 2)
The second in a series of three stand-alone, evocative and intriguing power point ‘Talking Tombstone’ presentations which demonstrate that cemeteries are not ‘Dead Centres’ and echo the importance of keeping our cemeteries and their stories ‘alive’ for future generations.
This presentation just oozes with stories ‘from the grave’ as you are taken on an intriguing and sometimes quirky journey where you will learn of cemeteries that are empty, vaults with no one inside, tombstones that give no idea of their well-known inhabitants, heritage disasters and inappropriate restoration, scandalous behaviour and the body of a young girl found in a cemetery, ponder why some inscriptions have been scratched out, meet a serial killer and even a ghost!! Plus, you may be able to provide an answer to a plaque that so far has defied any logical explanation?
After a refreshing morning tea we journey to Austria, known for its beauty and grand ornate buildings, acclaimed classical musician Mozart, the elegant Viennese Waltz and the re-usable coffin which was not well received by the Viennese people!! Finishing with a visit to Pompeii & Herculaneum where the destruction caused by Mt. Vesuvius in AD 79 left a very surprising legacy.
