Sydney Cemeteries

Talk by Dr Lisa Murray, historian and award winning author, about her recently published book ‘Sydney Cemeteries: a field guide’. The historian believes ‘graveyards are not just for the dead to rest, but are designed for the living’.

Come and join Dr Lisa Murray, professional historian and award winning author, talk about Sydney Cemeteries with special reference to Waverley and South Head Cemeteries. Our event will be held at the State Heritage listed Waverley Cemetery, an iconic landmark in Bronte that has a reputation for being one of the world’s most beautiful resting places. We are thrilled to host Lisa and hear her talk about her recently published Sydney Cemeteries: A Field Guide. Make sure to book in early!
Friends of Waverley Cemetery are hosting a tour of the cemetery in conjunction with Dr Lisa Murray’s talk. If you’ve enjoyed the coastal walk from Bondi to Bronte marvelling at the monuments in the Cemetery and wondered who is buried there, why not book in for a tour. The Friends of the Cemetery history buffs will love identifying monuments for restoration and raising community awareness about Waverley Cemetery’s incredible history and tell you about the resting place of many famous and infamous people.
