Songs of Love

Soirées Musicales Quintette performs romantic music in one of Brisbane's most historic churches, St Mary's Kangaroo Point. A perfect blend of music and place in a program of wonderful vocal music from the nineteenth century. A concert with a difference.

Soirées Musicales Quintette is a professional ensemble performing chamber vocal music from the nineteenth century. Led by pianist Peter Roennfeldt, sopranos Annie Lower and Rachael Griffin, tenor Mattias Lower and baritone Leon Warnock have built an impressive reputation for imaginative concerts of rarely-heard music in fine heritage venues.

The program highlight is the exquisite ‘Love song waltzes’ by Brahms, framed by partsongs by Schubert and Rossini, and Massent’s enchanting ‘Songs of the Aramanth forest’. The ensemble’s name is also represented in piano solos from the ‘Soirées Musicales’ set by Clara Schumann.
St Mary’s Kangaroo Point has long been a major concert venue enjoyed by music lovers for its fine acoustics. The 90-minute program includes complimentary refreshments served outside, where audience members and performers can mingle afterwards and enjoy the outstanding location overlooking the Brisbane river and city. The performance on Sunday 7 May commences at 4pm
