Secrets of the Female Orphan School

Did you know that the Female Orphan School is the oldest three-storey building in Australia? Visit the restored building now home to the Whitlam Institute within Western Sydney University and visit the exhibitions on display.

The Female Orphan School building has been a key witness to some of the most significant social changes in Australian history. The building has shaped thousands of lives over the two centuries it has stood on the banks of the Parramatta River. Now, explore the modern day usage of the building including the permanent exhibition, A Changing Australia: the Time of Gough Whitlam. The exhibition explores how Gough Whitlam and his government not only reformed Australia’s laws and institutions, but changed the way Australia sees itself.

Entry to the building and exhibition are free. 60 minute guided history tours are available for 2 or more persons upon request at a fee of $10 per person. Please email or phone (02)9685-9210 to make a booking.
