Searching for Charlotte: the fascinating story of Australia’s first children’s author presented by Kate Forsyth & Belinda Murrell

Searching for Charlotte: the fascinating story of Australia’s first children’s author presented by Kate Forsyth & Belinda Murrell.
Followed by a light lunch in the Secret Garden.

Kate Forsyth and Belinda Murrell are both award-winning and internationally bestselling authors, and sisters, descended from a family of writers, going back more than 200 years. Together they have written Searching for Charlotte – the biography of their great-great-great-great grandmother Charlotte Waring Atkinson, who wrote the first children’s book published in Australia in 1841.

Charlotte struggled through many difficulties to become a bestselling author, artist, educator and a pioneer in the fight for women’s legal rights, waging a bitter court battle for the right to raise her children and to control her own finances after escaping domestic violence. This battle became a landmark case in Australian legal history.
