Play Reading ‘Dragged Screaming to Paradise’ – Annie Gastin

You may remember Annie Gastin from her days on ABC Radio, or more recently singing Jazz and Blues around the traps with her beloved band Hotel Red. But you may not know her as an actor.

Twenty five years ago she was the solo character in a Suzanne Spunner play “Dragged Screaming to Paradise”which toured to the Melbourne Arts Festival to considerable acclaim.

Annie claims she wasn’t dragged to Darwin, but like any of us uprooted from the southern climes to live in the tropics, far from home, amongst crocs and other exotic creatures and incessant heat, it wasn’t always easy sailing. But a lot of it was funny……. when you look back!

And laugh you will as she tries to fit into life in the Top End, and cry just a bit when things start to go haywire.

“A great play for old timers to reminisce and newcomers to feel…. you’re not alone!”
