Pioneering teacher and artist Antonio Dattilo-Rubbo given a new life online

The life and times of Antonio Dattilo-Rubbo (1870-1955) are brought to life for the first time through a new online exhibition of images and archives in MAG&M's permanent collection. Enjoy diving into the story of this significant figure in Australian art history and learning of his enduring legacy.

One time Manly and Mosman resident, Rubbo was instrumental in establishing both Manly Art Gallery & Museum in 1930 as a cultural institution for Sydney’s north and its significant collection of Australian art. This recently launched online offering enables you to explore Rubbo’s artworks, letters and biography. Rubbo was also a highly respected teacher who mentored and encouraged so many of the early Australian modernist artists in Sydney, like Grace Cossington Smith, Donald Friend and Roy De Maistre who went on to leave their own marks on Australian art.
