One time Manly and Mosman resident, Rubbo was instrumental in establishing both Manly Art Gallery & Museum in 1930 as a cultural institution for Sydney’s north and its significant collection of Australian art. This recently launched online offering enables you to explore Rubbo’s artworks, letters and biography. Rubbo was also a highly respected teacher who mentored and encouraged so many of the early Australian modernist artists in Sydney, like Grace Cossington Smith, Donald Friend and Roy De Maistre who went on to leave their own marks on Australian art.
