Parramatta Female Factory – Unlocked
The Parramatta Female Factory Friends will be holding an Open Day to showcase the Factory which is celebrating a bicentennial. Share in the activities we carry out to support the preservation of this important historic, National Heritage-listed site in the quest for World Heritage.
Breathe in the atmosphere as you are taken back to share the lives of the women and their families who passed through the Female Factory between 1821 and 1848.
Guided tours will show you the impressive Frances Greenway buildings commissioned by Governor Macquarie. Tours commence at 11am and will be limited to 20 people per guide. The cost of the tours is included in the entry fee and bookings are required by email. Please put ‘Open Day booking’ in the subject line: firstname.lastname@example.org
The tours and re-enactment vignettes by descendants of factory women will give you insight to the joy and despair these women experienced.
The Friends rooms will be open from 10am to 2pm, including the research centre to share handy hints on factory research, Herstory display, colonial craft demonstration by a descendant of a factory woman, sale of factory-related merchandise and light refreshments in the Matron Gordon Tea Rooms.
